This year we started paddling after work which works fine in the spring and summer. However, we realized that some of our paddling sessions as we get into later fall might end up being after dark. Plus our son has been asking to do some night paddles.
Does anyone have a brand of lightweight, inexpensive boat lights that have been easy to rig on a canoe and they would recommend? We usually paddle an Old Town Tripper with plastic gunwales, but might switch to our Mad River with wood gunwales. The lake we paddle at night has motorboats so I would never think about going out as invisible.

I have a clamp-on red/green battery powered (C or D cell) bow light you can have if interested. I believe it’s an Atwood brand incandescent. Email me if you’re interested, just pay for shipping. It’s been sitting in my garage unused since the day I thought I needed it (which never came).

Check into the world of Cycling. There's a plethora of choices in price range and lumas. My personal choice is a Gemini Duo but it's a bit pricey. Actually unlike Mtbiking where a high luma light is needed when you're going down a steep rocky hill at 20 mph at 2:00 am. Paddling a canoe on flat water river going 3 or 4 mph will require very little illumination. A Princtontec head lamp would probable do. They can be mounted else where with some creativity. I'm sure others will chime in on types of lights that are required by law after dark

I got a pair of clamp on lights that came with a bunch of PFDs and paddles when I bought Spirit II. I suspect they're similar to the one dudz3636 is offering.
If you want them I'd be happy to send to you. I've never used them, but they came to me having been used by the boat's previous owner.
Send me an email if you want to set something up.

Years ago I was paddling in the Snake River Gorge just downriver from Lewiston Idaho and had an un pleasant encounter at night with a tug pushing two large barges downriver. I managed to get out of the way but just barely. After that I went looking for a light. I settled on this from NRS. The light itself attaches to a metallic plate with four rare earth magnets, and the plate can be screwed to a thwart or other surface. I put the plate on the end of a dowel to get it up a little higher. It provides very good light that can be seen from behind and I wear a headlamp to be seen from the front. Sadly, it no longer appears in the NRS catalog. Perhaps you could find it someplace else.

Small, lightweight, clip on, waterproof, and last 100hrs on a cr2032 battery. This is a popular option a lot of paddlers use for nights on the mr340 race.
