Hi all!
I trip with my Wenonah Spirit II, and I've been going back and forth with canoe seat backs.
I sit in the stern, and I've most recently been using the GCI Sitbacker. Problem is, the stern of the canoe really isn't wide enough to accommodate the rigid seat frame. The sides of the frame rub on the gunwales and this causes the seat too squeak/creak with each paddle stroke. It's frustrating.

Has anyone had this issue? Are there any options for a rigid seat back frame that would fit better in the Spirit II?

I don't care for the rigid seat backs I prefer something like the Wenona Super Seat Use it in both my Magic and Northstar.

The sitbacker is comfortable but will make noise no matter what you do. Whether it's the bottom straps flexing against your seat material or the fabric sliding along it's own frame I haven't found a good way to shut mine up.

If we're stealth fishing we leave the sitbackers at camp.

There are anti-squeak coatings available. We used them in automotive when niggling problems snuck past the normal preventive measures. Squeaks are caused by "stick/slip" friction and the coatings massively reduce friction. I don't know the best option for you but if you do a little research you can easily find an anti-friction coating to try if you like. I see that 3M sells anti-squeak tape but I'm guessing that you might consider $235 expensive for tape. Some materials squeak more than others and automotive used "material compatibility" requirements to avoid squeaks...so if you want to just do trial and error just change the surface of eíther or both of the parts that rub together (maybe with tape or some kind of silicon spray or just wipe on some 303 or armorall or or or).

My Spirit II is also too narrow in the stern for any kind of rigid seat like a GCI. I have a soft seat like a Crazy Creek which conforms but doesn't provide the same level of support of a rigid one.
