Six of us (ages 13-71) in 3 canoes. We put in at Stanton Bay, had great paddling conditions, and made to the Scripture Island area of Sturgeon the first day. Targeted walleyes mainly in the basin north and west of Scripture island with a couple of day trips into Lonely. The trip started out with a bang the first morning of fishing when 13 yr. old Josiah caught a 44" NP (as best we could determine using a paddle for measurement without bringing it in a canoe) jigging a big spinnerbait in the front of his canoe in 28"fow while his dad was fishing walleyes in the stern. I guess no one told him that wouldn't work...lol. Our best success was slowly dragging jigs with AuthentX paddle tails over the reefs and shoreline breaks off of islands in 22-28 FOW. I had good success also using a Rippin Rap in the same areas. Majority of fish caught were 18-22" although we had good numbers of fish up to 26.5". We were fortunate to have good wind days for the most part that allowed us to skull and drag our 3/8 jigs at about a 45 deg. angle much of the day which seemed more successful than a vertical presentation. One canoe spent a fair amount of time trolling and had good success using deep diving Flicker Minnows and Reef Runners.
My first trip using a new Garmin Striker 4 powered by a Dakota Lithium 10 ah battery. The battery lasted through 6 solid days of fishing and I enjoyed the added capablities of the Striker 4 after using a PiranhaMax for many years.
Kudos and recommendations go out to Camp Quetico for dinner, a night's stay in a cabin, breakfast and shuttle service to and from the Stanton Bay access. The food was excellent, the cabin very nice, along with a reliable shuttle for a very fair price. I will try my luck at posting trip pics soon.
