Can anybody help me identify what this Sawyer canoe may be? I know it is a Sawyer made in 1978, thought it may be a cruiser but it is exactly 17"-0" long (not 17'-9").

i'd guess it was an X-17
search for user HansSolo, lots of sawyer information in their photo journal.

Yeah I went through most info he posted, as far as I can tell it is a Oscoda 17 due the width at the waterline. Not sure if the X-17 even existed in 78'.

If you google "Sawyer Canoe Catalog" you'll see specs for the X17 and the Family 17. Seems like the best clue may be that the Family 17 has same bow and stern depth (19.5 inches) while the X17 is an inch shorter in stern than bow. There's also a half inch difference in center depth with X17 at 14 inches vs 13.5 on Family 17.

Sawyer's X-17 was not around in 1978, and even if it was, I can confidently state it's not an X-17. I'm quite certain it's a Sawyer Canadian. I'm not sure were the 17' measurement is from, because the Sawyer Canadian is 16' 6" in length. I'm thinking whoever measured the canoe in question took the measurement from the tip of the bow end cap to the tip of the stern end cap; which would skew the actual hull length.
