Hey everyone so im planning on taking my first solo trip sometime within the first two weeks of October for 3 nights. I've been going for 6 or 7 years now but this is my first solo trip and first time in the fall. I've paddled solos the last 3 years but still want to avoid major lakes where wind could really be an issue for now. Mostly going for fishing and relaxation although going up for the fall leafs changing has always been a life goal so wherever and whenever they're the best. Only been up through the gunflint so ely and other entry points are the goal i have been looking at EP33/34 so far Not looking for extensive routes mostly just a nice lake with basecamping with none or just a couple portages not looking to go crazy for my first trip as i am little nervous.

Nick,
Looking at a trip during the same time frame. I'm watching underground weather and plan to go in on a Thursday and come out Monday. Unless the weather improves a kitchen tarp will be a must. Right now I am planning to return to Insula through the numbered lakes to check how old friends have healed from the fire.
If color hasn't passed the border lakes perhaps going in Moose and heading to Knife would be my thinking for you. I do not fish, but believe fishing is better on Knife than the Numbered Lakes. Both these routes will have some traffic up until freeze so going solo I do not feel as concerned. If we end up in the same area I am open to sharing a campsite one night.

its a great time for ep 14 LIS - which is good first solo and a busy entry rest of season. Lake One and east would work. Just thinking popular and smaller water as good for first solo.

I've always been partial to Entry Point 38, Sawbill. That is where I did my first solo trip, going up the Frost River. But I have also done easy trips through Smoke, Burnt, Flame lakes as well. Those are pretty busy during the summer but in October will be good.

+1, LIS north is a gem. One of my favorite EP’s, especially for solo trips!

lake 1 would be a nice choice, as the crowd Should thin by then. but what i saw on the moose river last week was not the case, wow, was it busy!

Lake one to three had plenty of traffic, but empty camp sites. I saw no traffic Saturday as the wind was howling and whitecaps dominated the lake. Went in the 4th, came out the 6th. Colors are wonderful this year, even under grey and drizzly skies.
