Boonie and i had fun paddling up to Agnes. High water levels made it a breeze to get there and a workout to get back. Never saw the big bad bear on Agnes, but as he said, we are not bear magnets.

We wanted to go further but the weather was changing with strong winds so we decided to stay put. We really wanted to see the trees along the river to Stuart Lake.
saw the best milky way show the first night.

It was a pleasure meeting Steve and enjoying the week with him. He is on his way to the west coast to meet his wife and babysit grandkids and drive home together after that.

We had a nice time with fellow board members, whose names I can't remember now, at the boathouse before we went in.

Steve has the photos and a trip report will follow when he can work on it. I’ll make sure he does. :)

Good to be home.

I’ve heard the stories but haven’t seen a single photo yet. I’m not sure i believe Boonie was ever really here.

Curt and I did have a good trip. It’s fun seeing the different ways people do things. Curt kept threatening to get me a chair to replace my butt pad :) He didn’t mention all the trumpeter swans we saw on Nina-Moose and Agnes. That was areal treat. I only recall one loon though. It was a really great stargazing night - the best I can remember in a while. It was clear, dark, no moon, and the campsite was very open with a huge granite porch out front and an expansive view.

I stayed in after Curt left and paddled up the Portage River for a ways. I fought a pretty good current on the way in, but had a good tailwind and the opposite on the way out. It was a nice paddle, but I eventually came to a blockage about 75 yards short of a very pretty waterfall. I turned around there as it was late afternoon and the wind was picking up. It would be fun to go farther.

That was my first time back to Moose River since 2006. I had forgotten just how nice a paddle it was up to Agnes with little portaging. It is justifiably popular, but busier than what I have been used to in recent years. I think Nina-Moose was full one or two nights, with people coming in quite late in the day.

That’s the short version. I’ll not get anything else done until I get back home and catch up there. Babysitting two small children is busy!

Hope you are having a great time with those kiddos. Safe travels going home, Steve. If you going to be close to NE Iowa, just saying... :)
