I'm going in on the Gunflint Trail next week. Anyone know how the leaves are holding up and if they will still be around next week?

It should be excellent up north this next week. Many are just turning this last few days. Once they turn a lot depends on wind and rain how long they stay on. You should be hitting it at the peak. Yes talking a little snow tonight up north.

We came out last Wednesday and I would say it wasn't even 50 percent changed. Last few days of cooler weather may have sped things up. Should be good color next week.

Boy, my observation this year is they turn and drop. Just so wet... so I don’t think it’ll be as spectacular as most years, it’s still pretty stunning and the next week or two should be amazing. I hope for you the weather improves and you can enjoy your time in the north country.

I take peeks at the Lutsen web cam to see how the leaf situation is in that neck of the woods.

Lot of times you have to get away the lake effect and get over the hill to know the real colors. After this weekend or even this weekend if the sun comes out should be excellent. Its slow this year the changes.
Like Longville area_Brainerd we should peek like maybe the following weekend.>We have a lot of green still down here.
Talking a dreary weekend tho than shaping up better next week.

You can see the lake affect with that camera, in that the yellows of the shore are far behind the highland maples. The colors of the hills roughly correspond to the peak at my property, and that’s quite a distance from the lake; roughly the same distance away as Bower Trout Lake is from Grand Marais.

this is all excellent news! heading to the Gunflint tomorrow for a too short weekend and was hoping for color and mooses and other wildlife.

Headed up and staying at the Art House B&B in Grand Marais Oct 6-9. Hoping to shuttle-assist hike a couple of sections of the SHT: 1) Cook Co. Rd. 6/115F parking lot to Cook Co. Rd. 45 (Pike Lake Rd.) near Cascade River SP; and 2) Kadunce River Wayside (or, maybe Lakewalk East parking area at Hane Creek) to CR Magney SP. Fall colors, minimal mud, and a bit of sunshine are all on our wish list.

Have fun people. Fall in many ways is the best it gets.

You will love this place! Stayed there in late August. The owners are hilarious. He might be playing in a small band downtown somewhere while you are there. Do NOT skip breakfast!

My wife and I will be in Two Harbors with the camper at the municipal campground tonight and Saturday night to do some volunteer SHT blazing work on Saturday. It looks like it'll be wet and cool but I expect the colors will be pretty good.

Boy, bring a rain coat... last I looked it was going to be quite wet on Saturday. Monday and Tuesday look the best coming up. Still some green but it’s looking pretty good. Should be good next week.

Boy, i bet that new stretch of road going into Ely from the west should be beautiful. I think that view should determine prime colors.

We needed both raincoats and rain pants, but found about an hour and a half this morning when the rain was pretty light. Leaves are getting some color but it’s so gray outside with the lack of any sunshine that all the colors are muted.

Good day to be out... a little frost on the old cabin roof but probably none on the ground. Sun is finally out and time to enjoy a beautiful fall day. Colors are fantastic even though so many leaves have fallen. Very little green outside of pines left. And you can see into the forest better already. The sun is going to be very welcomed!!!!! As brief as it will be... three days max.

So frost on the roof ( old cabin is still in the way, haha), color in the yard and if you can see... the sun illuminating the leaves across the lake.

Drove out of Ely yesterday afternoon. Color near peak if not at peak. Windy, but leaves not dropping in any great number, yet.

Coming down the Sugarloaf road Sunday afternoon. Mostly sunny Sunday. Real sunny so far Monday AM. Near Little Marais.

just returned from the weekend on the gunflint trail. stayed in a motel unit at trail center. they were packed non-stop for food on saturday. it rained all day saturday, non-stop, sometimes it poured so hard it washed the mud off the truck so we had to go find more mud :). the colors were very pretty, but i don't think at exactly peak yet. the wind probably took care of lots of leaves sunday. no moose at all, a few tracks. locals say there are no wolves left either because they ate all the deer. that was an argument i didn't want to get into. although we thought we were looking a wolf poop on the round lake road.

there were people and traffic everywhere!!! ugh. town was a disaster if you wanted to park and get into a store. pedestrians first... pedestrians first....fudge shop, donut shop, gas station and get back up the trail. found an estate sale on gunflint lake (got two original sleds with metal runners for $20!). watched the twins game at Hungry jack lodge (also packed).

it was a relaxing trip even though it was short. already planning a trip for January.

Beautiful! Thanks for your pic too, Ben. It was peak color in New Brunswick two days ago, but not on Prince Edward Island. Being an island, even one as far north as P.E.I., stretches the fall like taffy at the carnival.

This was from the first. It is on the Magnetic Rock Trail facing west toward the area affected by Ham Lake fire.

Two Harbors to Grand Marais today, with a stop to ride the Lutsen Gondola. Mostly very good to excellent. One side of Lutsen was great, the North side had a lot of what appeared to be dead trees. The birch and poplar are excellent.

Coastal Maine is at peak color in an especially pretty fall. These were all taken within a mile of my house.
