The dog sled project is nearing the end as I continue to make the cargo netting. I have learned a basic eye splice used to attach rope to snaps and eyelets, but I am having trouble with making an eye in the middle of a rope to attach a snap to. I am using a short piece of rope and simply running it inside the main rope with a short section of it outside the main line, but I am having problems with it pulling out, even when using a crown splice.




Does anyone here know how to accomplish what I am trying to do here? I am pretty new to splicing and do not know much of the terminology, so google searches are pretty much just bringing up eye splices and end-to-end splices.

Here is a picture that shows where the eye needs to go. The eyelet directly below it has a short section of rope and eventually a snap to attach to the eye.

I've never seen a splice in kernmantle rope so I'm interested in this.

Is this of any use?

I ended up just burying the short piece of rope in the static line as I had shown in the first pictures. When testing the strength of the splice it was fine until slack was introduced into the static line. In order to work around this I will stitch through both lines in these areas.



Anyway, I think I can call the sled finished for now. The cargo netting was the last step.

sorry off topic. I see race car parts (motor and gears in your shop) what and where do you race other than dog sleds. I work on a outlaw dirt modified in Wisconsin we have raced at Deer Creek a few times.

My uncle races IMCA stock cars, mainly in Britt, IA. We have gone to Deer Creek a couple of times as well.
