I am considering the loop below, I am looking for recent knowledge and input. Thank you!!
In May 13, Out May 20 2020
Looking for a balance of casual and challenging, I think I may have found it.

Loop:
Lake1-3, Horseshoe, Brewis, Harbor, North Wilder, Hudson River, Hudson, Fire, Lake 4 pond/lake, Bridge, Riffle, Lake 2-Lake 1, exit.....

Looking for input and information on the ones below:
- Gear Rental from Kawishiwi Lodge and Outfitter Lake 1
- Hudson River from North Wilder to Hudson Lake, anticipating water depths to be acceptable
-What am I running into when going from Fire to Lake 4, via Lake 4 Pond or Drumstick Creek?
-Riffle to Lake 2 judging from previous comments, this one may deserve a little more respect than "just a 70 rod portage'.

Inputs, suggestions and other are welcome
Thank you

As for the route:
Personal preference - I would not do the south portion - Horseshoe - Wilder- Hudson Creek, swampy and this area was pretty devastated in the Pagami Fire - It is recovering on schedule but still only small trees. I would do more of the northern parts of that area - even over to Insula (north end and east side for beach sites) and Alice. The path back through Fire, Bridge and Rifle are great - less traveled. Good scenery. - We have done that section many times - pretty easy even for an old lady. A couple portage challenges but nothing to be feared or avoided.
Outfitter - I have stayed at Kawishiwi Lodge bunk house several times - nice folks, helpful and reasonable price.

I have had a lot of people do the Horseshoe, Wilder, Hudson the last few years.

Most of those people choose spring or fall when water levels are better plus both are good times for seeing moose. Since the area is small water and the newer tender growth attracts moose, I'd go for it if I were you.

I took a trip where we stayed at Hudson. We took a day trip back to Lake Three, headed south to Horseshoe and made it back to Hudson in 5 hours (a nice day trip). I am not a mushroom gatherer since I don't know them well enough, but a fire brings out mushrooms, blueberries and moose/deer. Anyone know if mushrooms show up this early?

I have also camped on the north side of Lake Four where it is off the main route to Hudson. Makes a great spot to travel multiple directions to explore, fish and not have to carry your gear all the time. Sometimes you travel more place that way. :-)
