Anyone try out the Haven hammock tent? Suppose to be able to lay flat in it. Looks great albeit the price is more than I'm wanting to spend. Looking for feedback on it if anyone's tried it. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/haventents/haven-tent

Pre-orders only? Asking if anyone has tried this? Please don't advertise on this site.

Certainly looks interesting. Looks like earliest delivery is December, so only those involved in designing and prototyping have had their hands on it, I would think.

Personally, I don't want to 'lay flat in my hammock'. The slight 'U' shape is part of what makes hammock sleeping so comfortable for me.

Interesting concept. I wonder if anyone has made their own DIY version of this concept yet. If not, I'm sure they're right around the corner.

My hammocking ignorance may show here but aren't a lot of gathered end hammocks flat laying at the proper angle? Aren't bridge hammocks supposed to lay flat? Ever look into a Amok Dramur?
Flat lay is not new as far as I have seen. May be an interesting design but nothing really new, not particularly light weight, compact, or inexpensive.
It is different, but in the hammock field not unusual.

But then I'm still a dedicated tent camper, and have not been convinced of any advantages of a hammock. But those who know me understand my research and curiosity.

So it's a bridge hammock with a bunch of extra fabric so that you lay lower in it/have more open space between you and the bug net? I mean, it's fine, but I don't see what the big deal is supposed to be.

I like this concept but I see two problems that rule it out for me. First, it's only 23" wide. Second, I think it's a mistake to sell it with the mattress. People are very particular about their mattresses. I'll never give up my mattress (Exped Synmat 3-D 7), especially not for one with a lower R rating.

I tried a hammock for the first time this year and liked it, but not enough to give up the advantages of a tent, like more room and guaranteed bug protection on all sides without being claustrophobic.

I watched the video and as many know have been hanging since 2011, the same year I joined BWCA.com. My take is it is what he describes, he made changes to existing systems and integrated customer service features like ease. I currently hang in a bridge hammock and have been sliding an air mattress into the sleeve and achieve a nearly flat lie. It is very close to my expensive mattress at home was my first reaction. I also like the gentle dip and sleep best on my back, but with more air pressure in the mattress I could sleep on my stomach.
Pros I see are some nice gadget bags and mostly the increased head room with the raised bug screen. Possible pro is the everything in one bag easy set up, but this also a possible nay as I would worry about the Haven in inclement weather. And hanging a tarp over the system with that elevated bug screen might require a ladder.
My gear review summary is a great hammock to have in your vehicle and if you get a chance hang it is some park area and enjoy a break. Or hike to your local park and take a break, even better.

This seems a bit too pretentious for me to take them seriously. He likes to pat himself on the back for how, subjectively, much more comfortable his design is, implying that every single other design is inferior. I've made bridge hammocks similar to what he has for FAR less than what he's charging. I understand he needs a profit margin of some sort, but it's overpriced. I'm also not sure where he's getting the idea that no other hammock lays flat. That's patently false and easily, demonstrably, proven. If it takes off, good for him, but at that price I'll keep making my own.

I'm not a hanger because I can't sleep on my back or my side. A flat hammock would work if I could lay on my stomach so I was intrigued by this design. But then at only 23" wide, and having a weight limit of 280 lbs., that idea quickly went away. I wonder why they chose a design of only 23" wide? Why not have a width of 25" so you can use almost any pad instead of one they supply?

I could not find specific measurements, but the ridgerunner FAQ noted a 25x77x3.5 air mattress would fit into the sleeve.

Not a hammock-er but i do look around, a bunch. Check out a Amok Draumr 6 foot and 400 pound capacity and an XL version available, 25 inch pad width.

I know this is a way old post.
But having converted to full-time hammock, and sleeping in my Dream Hammock Sparrow every night for almost three years. The global of "lying flat" is kind of wonky. Yes, the gathered end hammocks with the diagonal lay are sort of a flat lay... But not really. That being said, WHATEVER you call the position, it's fantastic. I have ALWAYS slept on my side or stomach in a bed. But, hammocks are really a game-changer. I sleep in my back 90% of the hr time and in my side maybe 10% of the time. It feels so good and natural to be laying on my back. COMPLETELY unlike a bed. It's like completely different physics. All my aches and pains and stiffness from a bed are gone. I tell people it feels like I am cradled in God's hands in the clouds. When I go to a hotel and sleep in a bed, I'm miserable.

Bottom line, don't be seduced by the concept that a hammock should be providing something similar to a bed mattress. They are as different as bricks and animals. Unfortunately there are zero stores where you can try all these out for yourself. Best advice is to chase down one of the hammock hand weekends at a campground... Which happen fairly regularly. Go to hammock forums. Com.

Note that you can also lie straight or on the "other diagonal"... They all feel good... Just a bit different. I also sleep in my back with my legs crossed a lot. Weird, I know. But like I said, it's like different physics.
