Spent a few days walking around last weekend. Ended up following a couple different drainages and came across some interesting things along the way. One of the canyons was full of sandstone cliffs. Some of the cliffs had small caves in them. Some of the rocks in the mostly dry drainage seemed to contain fossils. I also noticed the top and bottom of what may had been a toothpaste container below one of the caves.

Generally, I come across a lot of signs of animal life in places like this, but our dog is pretty good at finding things that I would probably miss. After parking the car, we walked down a gravel road until it ended, and then started off in the direction of a drainage that showed up on my map. It wasn't long before I spotted an animal trail with elk prints on it, and I followed it down into the canyon.

Decided to stop and have some lunch before retracing our way back to the car. Wish I could give a better description. All of the caves seemed to be naturally formed through water erosion. The few pools of water that we came across had ice on the surface in the afternoon.

Thanks. I knew that there was some type of a canyon off to the side of the road, and decided to just start walking instead of trying to drive all the way to the trailhead. Was pleasantly surprised at how well the day turned out. Ended up fishing on Sunday night and Monday morning before packing up and driving home.
