Has anyone here seen or used one of these home freeze dryers from Harvest Right? I'm considering purchasing one and thought it would be great for creating my own lightweight meals for BWCA trips, as well as using it for home food storage.

Maybe you would get a response over in the gear forum? I don't know how many people look in this forum on a regular basis. It does look intriguing.

Do you go thru enough freeze dried food to justify the cost? $1600 will do a decade worth for me as I air dry at home only buying freeze dried as needed. Some veggies like green beans and meats like poultry I like better F-dried, the rest can be air dried for my use.

I recently purchased one (the medium, 4-tray), and will begin to use it this weekend. My wife and I are avid gardeners so it wasn't a purchase exclusively for camping/canoeing. I plan on preparing a wide variety of food with it for my 2 week trip to Opasquia, since we have a 100lb per person weight limit when flying in. I will report back on how it works out.

I have used the harvest right freeze dryer and really enjoy the flexibility it provides you.

Biggest con is, as butthead said, the cost and time you will put into this would be way cheaper to buy already freeze dried items.

Also the maintenance with the vaccume pumps are a pain.
