We are planning our trip for this year already! We've decided on Brule Lake - family of four, we always base camp. Kids like good swimming spots. We like the views and good fishing. Any info greatly appreciated!

What day are you going in? If you want a spot during summer I would leave on a Tuesday early and try to get anything especially something protected from the wind. That lake can be hard to find a campsite. But it is a nice lake :)

BRULE BAY BABY!
I'd recommend trying to get the campsite on Vernon just after the portage down from Brule bay.

Brule is beautiful. I have stayed on the large island just northeast of the entry that has three campsites on the site furthest east where the narrows opens up into the main part of the lake. That was a pretty nice site. I’ve also stayed on the island site furthest west, and that was marginal. Brule Bay is beautiful, and the bay that holds the portage to Cam Lake features a rock slide and may be one of the most beautiful spots in the BWCA.

Agree 100% with TB - the Vernon site adjacent to the portage from Brule is great. But the downside is the lack of other choices if it's taken - just one other site on Vernon.
Wind can be an issue on Brule if you are covering a long distance.

I will third this. Brule is big water and can get dicey in a hurry. Vernon is a good option...so is Swan. I know it's a ways from Brule, but it's a nice area. Very moosey last time I was there. There's also an abandoned shack I can tell you about! The kids might like it.

I did indeed rock down to Electric Avenue, but I did not take it higher. I regret that.
