I'm doing a 6-10 day solo trip in late June and will be targeting big pike. Debating between Seagull and Big Sag. Opinions? Would I need a tow for Big Sag to get to really good areas with little traffic? I do like the large number of islands in Seagull. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My guess would be Sag, but I would contact Mike Berg at Seagull Creek Fishing Camp. He is an expert in the area. Take a look at his Hawg board on his web site.

i'm sure Sag holds more , it is 5X the size of seagull. but with that said it is 5X the area you need to navigate/scout and you are going solo.
here is a couple of pics from seagull , not what i would call giants but quality pike. if you do choose seagull these were caught off the 2 major points on the west end (#448 & #455) and people have caught huge pike out of alpine and jasper too in case you want to explore (3rd pic out of jasper), but i'm sure the #'s of big pike are not many.

Thanks for all the Basswood recommendations! I agree that it's a great lake and I've fished it several times...I know it's quality. For a variety of reasons I'm trying a new lake on the east side so Seagull and Big Sag seemed to be the best choices on the east side.

If you catch one in Sag with a small black shad rap hanging out of the side of its mouth, tell it hello from me. Hooked it in deep water while trolling across the lake and got it close enough to the canoe to see that it was a monster before it got its teeth across the line. Hard to say what the length was, but it was the kind of near-miss that will keep a fisher person up at night.

I'll throw in Winchell for something on the east side. What it lacks in numbers it makes up for in size. Listen to the Tumblehome podcast episode where they go into some more detail on the lake.
