I'm contemplating a first solo of five nights in June 2020 using entry 77 so I can see some pictographs. Obviously the available dates need to line up when I try reserving at the end of the month. We've camped at Fenske Lake years ago so I have an idea where this entry is located but have some concerns.
Is Echo Trail passable in an all wheel drive car or will I need an suv?
Is the mile portage to Angleworm Lake doable solo?
Based on the maps, 77 appears pretty limited of routes if you don't do it. My fear would be going to Angleworm and all the sites taken. At which point I'd be tired and pretty screwed, what's the rule on bivouacking?
If I portage to Little Bass Lake and basecamp, how is the fishing?
I'm actually cool with basecamping because I'm lame with basic expectations. I just love the peace and quiet of the North woods and if I'm solo it will be truly be quiet.
Or would a September date be better?
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

I can say that the long portage from there to Angleworm is one of the toughest maintained trails in the BWCA. No guarantees but, I dont think overcrowding/full campsites is a common occurrence on Angleworm? So, I'd go for it. It's a beautiful lake/area. We had good fishing too.

Car is fine on the echo trail, worst part might be some washboarded gravel sections

Thanks for the encouragement. I have read your awesome report. In fact, the first thing that drew me to this site were the trip reports. They always leave me envious.
I've downloaded all the entry point and portage maps into backcountry navigator. I'm still looking for a gpx files with all the campsites. (Found it)

If you’re looking for solitude, I’d stay on Little Bass. Not many people venture to this lake. Little Bass had large and small mouth bass, and northerns. Angleworm will have slightly better fishing for walleye and northern. The portage to Angleworm is long but doable. When you get to the fork in the trail, make sure you veer left to get to the lake.
