Hi folks! I’ve been to BWCA many times and have always gone to same place. Looking to change it up this summer. Wondering how Mudro EP & lake are? First. May be a possibility. Or if anyone knows of any falls to visit that are possibly close by Mudro or Fall lake area.

Mudro has two EPs. Try to get the 'unrestricted' one, as the 'restricted' one doesn't allow camping on Horse lake.

It's a great EP, and busy. Lots of potential routes and good access to crooked lake. Very nice paved parking lot with fairly clean restrooms as well.

Reserve your permit early. They go fast, especially Friday/weekend entry dates.

Also, if you intend to camp on any of the connecting lakes, start looking for sites by mid-afternoon.

Where had you always gone before?

Mudro has access to a lot of falls, all along the border on Basswood River. You can go down the Horse river which will put you between the falls. Can go upstream towards the upper or down toward wheelbarrow and lower falls. Camp there or camp on Horse. All of those areas can be busy depending on when you go. Mudro permits tend to fill up faster than about any other in the park.

Are looking to stay right on Mudro or camp farther in from the entry? You could also go in via Sandpit to Jackfish Bay of Basswood. That would be simplest way to get you to the top of upper Falls. Then you could also take the restricted permit since you don't need to be on Horse lake.
