I discovered this tensioner on Thingiverse yesterday so I decided to print one on my 3D printer.

Anybody tried one of these with paracord?
They go by different names but if you search "loopalien" on amazon you will get a lot of hits

RLJ: "Found these on line, ordered a couple sets and used on my tarp. They're free, just pay shipping and wait (takes about a month to get them). Order now and have by canoeing time.

I can print them for millicents....in units of hours and not days!
The real question (for me) is how did they work out?

RLJ: "Nice option when you have the ability and equipment to do it yourself. These are aluminum and worked very well on the tarp setup. My original post probably should have been in the Gear Forum."
Good to know...I will take some on my next trip and experiment.
When I invested in a 3D printer, I had no clue about what utility it brings. I have repaired and/or improved many things...comes in handy on a weekly basis. Fun too.

Tomcat: "TechnoScout,
Also curious if 3-D printer can reproduce tarp clips? Was thinking about shrinking size if possible."
Yes. I have printed some but not this style. Very interesting. I will have to draw this up and see if I can make it work. Once in the slicer, I can scale it as desired.
I will get back to you on this!

I ordered some so that I can duplicate the design. In the mean time, I am designing from scratch...

TechnoScout: "Here is my first cut at implementing a tarp clip using the EasyKlip concept. "
I was given some of these, actually quite a few of these. I was told they were designed for holding up fabric curtains. I have used a few on fabric tarps. If you would like some let me know and I will send you a few.

Very nice! Sure...I will pm you with an address

TechnoScout: "I received the EasyKlip tarp clip today. It will be easy to duplicate. I see already from it's design, that I did not need to put teeth on both elements of my design.
US Patent 6,789,295"
This is exactly what I am sending you 6 of. I was given two boxes of 250 each of these clips by a friend whose sister worked at an order fulfillment business (like a very small version of Amazon). Excess stock which did not sell they were told to dispose of and thus I got them. Through the years I was given a number of items some of which I kept and many of which I gave away. My friend knew I liked free stuff.

There are two versions of the Klip. The one you pictured is different than the one I received. It appears they serve different use cases, but I am not sure. Once I get the ones you are sending, I am going to bundle up my design and the two EasyKlip designs and send them to Tomcat who is going to do the scientific measurements to determine which is best and why. A real science project.
Incidentally, the EasyKlip is covered by two different patents. One is a utility patent and the other is a design patent. The utility patent covers the Klip I received and the design patent covers the one you are sending.

I received the clips!! Thanks.
I will bundle up some of the other version along with some of my other creations and send to you this week.
I wonder what these are made of. ABS? Very hard stuff. Seems harder than ABS to me but who knows.
