I will be going in at entry point #14 in early June and am wondering about route/destination suggestions. We're looking to travel hard for a day or day and half then base camp and fish and take day trips.
Would we be better off heading west through Shell, Lynx, Ruby, Hustler, etc., or going north through Loon and Little Loon and into the little lakes in that area?

I've only been to that area once, mid-June a few years ago, and we did not go the north route. We pushed hard on the first day and made it to Hustler. It was a long, exhausting first day, but we double portaged. I really liked Hustler. Fishing was good and you have the option to day trip to Oyster for lakers and possibly head beyond. The long portage to Oyster is pretty easy with an empty canoe.

I liked Lynx a lot too. We made our 2nd camp on Little Shell. We didn't catch anything on Little Shell, but we found fish on Lynx. We were able to paddle through the short portage between Lynx and Little Shell. Shell Lake was busy. We didn't catch much there.

Base camped on Lynx a few years ago and loved it. Gorgeous area, good campsites, great fishing.

LIS North, far NW corner of the park.

In our one trip out of that EP we went hard on Day 1 and made it to Snow Bay of LLC. Had the whole area to ourselves and a great island campsite. Figured out the fish and had a great time. I do hear great things about the smaller lakes south of there but don't discount the big one either.

My only other real comment on the area, travelling through Loon isn't too bad but I won't camp there ever again. Too many boats and people for my liking. Had a guy water ski past our camp at 7am that morning we stayed.

#14 is one of my favorite entry points. We have hit it quite a few times in the past 25 years. Our favorite direction without question is to head through Shell and base camp on Lynx. Nice campsites with great fishing for walleye and small mouth. Added bonus of being able to day trip to Hustler, Heritage and into Oyster for lakers. We're putting in on June 7th. When is your put in day?

Aren't motors allowed on LLC? Trying to stay away from hearing motors.

I've been through LIS a couple times and it is for sure one of my favorites. I've opted for more isolation and smaller lakes by heading the northern route. It takes a decent part of a day to get to the very end of Little Loon where a great campsite lies. You could make that a base camp or head further and take a long talked about Slim/Fat "portage" to hunt the Lakers. I personally opt for remoteness, which I feel is perhaps less common on the Shell/Lynx lakes depending on when you'll be there. Either way, you can't go wrong.

I think you could make it by it fairly easy the first day but there is a cool little campsite at the north end of Little Loon. The portage from Little Loon to Slim is bitch, FYI.

We'll be there June 10-14, looking to make it to Lynx I think and base camp there.
