I've used both wire mesh funnel style and a 4x4 minnow seine with good results. I would think the seine would be better for canoe camping. Less space, just use some sticks for the handles, great way to keep kids occupied. Never used any in the BW. Not sure on the regs in MN. I'm sure someone more local will chime in.

The one I have is 4' x 4' little lead wts on the bottom with floats attached to the top. Tie 2 broomsticks to the sides. Works great in creek's with your partner scaring Minnie's into it. Kicking up stones will get you crayfish, sculpin even hellgramites.

Any recommended youtubes to watch?
Thanks!"
You have a long net with weights on the bottom of the net and floats on the top of the net. It has two poles that the net is attached to on the net ends. You just unroll the net and one guy on each pole. You want to keep the bottom of each pole facing forwards and on the bottom of the lake. You do sweeping moves and pull the net up on shore. To dry the net just wrap around two trees.

I’ve used minnow traps before that are mesh shaped in two halves. If you are trying to catch Minnows put a chunk of bread in a mesh bag hanging inside as bait. If you are trying to catch crawfish fill a mesh bag with fish guts and hang inside the trap.
