Is anyone able to measure the blade size on a power surge paddle for me? I understand the overall width can vary .5", but I'm asking more about the over blade size, top to bottom before the taper, the meat of the blade that goes in the water.

I bought a ZRE Power Surge light close to nine years ago. It supplanted a beautiful hand built Gillespie Quetico paddle that I had used for endless seasons- a relatively lightweight wood paddle with a wide blade. I liked the "power" i could get with the wide blade, prided myself on it. I was wrong. The 8' wide ZRE was a revelation- I was a fool for falling for the wide blade. The level of feedback and ease of use of the ZRE is astonishing- it is a superbly designed and executed bit of gear, without a doubt the best $ I spent in some 40 years of being a paddling fanatic.
What I'm trying to say is that the wizards that designed the ZRE might have a better notion of ideal blade size than what you've settled on via experience. Certainly was true in my case.

campnfish: "I may have just found it on the website, 100 sq inches for an 8" wide blade, so must be about 12" tall before the taper."
On the website there is a drop-down box listing widths and sq. in. area.
