My wife and I will be putting in at EP 24 Fall Lake in late June. We'll be spending the night before at an outfitter on Moose Lake. They will be driving us from their facility to Fall Lake the morning we put in. Any advice on tipping the driver? Yes, no, recommended dollar amount? It's about a 30 minute drive one way.

We are paddling through Basswood back to Moose on a 13 day trip so we only need them to drive us one way while we leave our car in their parking lot.

Thanks,
Kendis

It would depend some on service - did they load and unload your canoe, carry your packs to landing (maybe not at Fall Lake), and disposition - but i would tip between $10 to 20.

I typically do if they do a good job and I don't feel what I'm getting charged for the service is already super high. Typically it's a younger person it seems in my experience, so I'm sure they're thankful if they do get one. I've tipped shuttle drivers before and tow boat drivers. I've also forgot to bring cash once (I don't take my wallet with me on trips) So I make it a point to include "cash" on my list to pack just so I have something on me when we're all packed up and ready to go. Amount? Whatever you're comfortable with.

Is this like cow tipping? If so, that doesn't seem very nice.

I usually tip $10 for a shorter ride like that and $20 or so for a longer ride like 1 hr or more. Same goes for tow boat rides for me. I’ve never felt that my driver expected the tip, so don’t feel bad if you’re unable to tip comfortably or unwilling to for some reason. However, if you’re up for tipping, I’m sure this is a year a tip is extra appreciated.

We usually tip $10 a person each way.

I usually tip $10 per person per tow or van drop off. One guy in our group is responsible for this job so it gets done. This is because nobody ever has money ready to tip the person, everyone is ready to start or end the trip. Wallets are packed away in the bottom of packs. Collect before hand and put the money in an envelope.

I agree with the $10 - $20 recommendations, depending on the length.
