I have a son in the Navy, soon to be assigned to an Aircraft Carrier after nearly 2 years of schools. I found this advice from the Navy to its sailors worthy of passing on:

"As a reminder, we encourage you to T.H.I.N.K. before you post. In these difficult times, it can be easy to post or repost negative or false information.

T - Is it true?
H - Is it Helpful?
I - Is it inspiring?
N - Is it Necessary?
K - Is it Kind?"

I found this tidbit just a few days ago so, I apologize for all the times I did not T.H.I.N.K. before posting here. I will try to do better.

I realize it is "Off-Topic" but, maybe we can reclaim BWCA.com as a happy place on the internet?

Edit: I have been told the Navy wisdom I thought was so profound comes from guidance given to middle school and elementary school kids. Sorry.

Good advice, regardless of the origin.
Thanks.

Kind being the most important

Well, that's no fun at all.

Thanks for your post though. It is a good idea, all in all.

Good checklist to review before I speak, as well!

Great advice. Worth pinning at the top.

My number of posts likely will go down.

Certainly good advice to follow. I thank your son for his service. Out of curiosity, what carrier is being deployed to? My son was on the USS Truman for nearly a year and a half, but that was about 6 years ago.

He has not received offical orders but is expecting the USS Carl Vinson based upon preliminary info in the system. The natural flow of sailors from his school to the fleet seems to be in flux right now so, we aren't 100% sure of the where, when and how of the next few weeks. I suppose that is true for almost everyone these days but, for the past two years we have been able to circle significant dates on the calender months in advance.

OCDave, good advice - where were you with this helpful wisdom a few weeks ago? I could have used it. Thanks again

After a somewhat wasted youth, I found a little mantra I now cling to whenever I get a little disappointed in myself; "It is never too late to become the man you want to be." I fall short of that goal often but, one day I hope to get close. I am doing better this week than a few weeks ago.

I suspect that in coming months we will all have opportunities to try to be better individuals.

I think your list is quite good! However, I generally think the positive vibe around greatly outweighs the negative to the point I do not see or engage with the latter. It is generally easy to ignore hurtful posts and the poster will soon be downgraded to the going off new postings soon enough if all stop responding to them. Of course, mods do take posts down as well.

Excellent advice.

Not sure necessary is necessary. It’s a public forum. Some freedom should be allowed. Like random attempts at humor or creativity. Not necessary, but greatly appreciated. Kindness however, is a necessity in my world.

Cheers, scat

Oh crap, that explains a lot, I thought it was D.R.I.N.K. before you post....

D.R.I.N.K.

Do whatever makes you happy
Remember to be kind
There is no I in something, I forgot what
Nowledge is the key to happiness
Know yourself, and be true to yourself

Or something like that. I lost my mask. Why do I always do that.
