I am a Program Manager at a non-profit in the Twin Cities who each June takes approximately 150 middle school students on week-long BWCA canoe trips. This year, we have 106 super sad campers as we had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel the trips due to safety concerns surrounding the COVID situation. We will be providing them with alternative and COVID safe programming during that week, but we want to get them outside and active as much as possible.

HERE COMES THE ASK: As the final event for our week, we would like to organize a sanitized and social distance oriented Portage Across the City where all students & families would portage a canoe through a section of the city until we incorporated all 106 families all across the city.

To do this, we are looking for someone who would be willing to DONATE or sell at a SUPER CHEAP rate an old (NOT NECESSARILY SEA-WORTHY) Kevlar canoe so that we can have each student, large & small, successfully carry it in this journey across their city! We also would love all the students and families to sign the canoe so that by they end, we have all the signatures of the folks involved.

This canoe's BWCA days may be over, but it would find a worthy life forever in memory of the 2020 trip that could never be!

If you have such a canoe taking up space in your garage or yard and could use a new lease on life for an inspiring journey for our students, please respond to this post!

Thank you!

Although this qualifies as a "For sale or wanted" post, it's also a "Looking for a donation" post. So more people can see it and to broaden the opportunity for a donation, I would like to move this to the Listening Point - General Discussion forum. Ok with you?

I am just curious but will happen to all the canoes after the trip? will the students get them? Will you save some for next year and hit water with some? just curious.

Wish I were closer. We have a Wenonah Odyssey circa 1991 that needs a good use and hopefully a home.

My bad for not being clear! I am only looking for 1 Canoe. Each family only takes it through a section, and then the next family picks up that same Canoe and takes it from there and so on. We will be sanitizing the canoe between families. So only 1 Canoe for the whole event. If it is not sea-worthy, the signed canoe will probably hang in our building as we have students in and out often that can enjoy looking at it and ask questions. Not sure if it is sea-worthy what we will do. But we will most likely be able to keep using it for further programming once we are able to resume in-person programs with no restrictions.
