Spring Creek Tuff Rack
Thule TracRac SR
- Will these racks work with a Bak Revolver4?
Hoping to hear first hand for someone who owns
I called Spring Creek, but they could not give me a firm answer until Monday when their full staff was in house.
They could confirm the racks for with the popular soft covers.
Vehicle, 2019 f350, crew cab, short box
Thanks in advance

What vehicle do you have?
Have you looked at Yakima pickup racks with round bars Yakima 300 Outdoorsman system. If you do the round bars, definitely consider adding the Keel Over Brackets. Best things for a smooth and secure ride for your canoes.

I went thru this a few years ago with my 16 F-150....In fact there are a couple old threads about it.....spring Creek couldn't give me a definitive answer then. I wound up putting a pair of Thule bars on my cab and a spring Creek goalpost on my bumper.....I have a revolver X2 hard tri-fold which I absolutely love. I can open it up and fold it to get to the gear.....obviously the drawback to the goal post is I can't drop my tailgate with it upright....Anymore I rarely haul anything longer than my solo canoe and I just use the two bars on the cab and leave the goalpost home.....I run a line off the bow to a strap under my hood and it has worked great......I'll try and dig up some pictures later to post.

I forgot I already had photos uploaded to this site......If I did this right, the second photo will show the goalpost and a single rack on the back of the cab....I later added the second rack on the cab as in photo 1 which was taken a couple of days after our annual "New Years Day Float".....

Mike, thank you for the reply.
I had read your thread, But it didn't quite answer the questions I had. Specifically whether or not anyone has any experience with racks and tonneau covers.
your thread did give me the idea of putting two racks over the cab.
Do you see any downside doing this?
I have always liked the over the bed racks. But I'm not really sure why I should be partial to them.
Definitely not a fan of blocking the tailgate, and therefore ruling out the goal post.
That will certainly encourage all of my brilliant paddling friends to incur gate damage. ??
Have you ever considered a hitch extender? Extend that thing 1-2' so the gate can drop?

Anymore, the goalpost stays in the back of my garage collecting dust. I've been using the two cab racks exclusively for the past couple of years and usually drive North with two solo boats (14.5' and 16') and have had no issues. I never really considered an extender for the goalpost. You are right about dinging the tailgate though, that was a big concern of mine......I've seen enough Priuses and Honda civics hauling 18' canoes on roof racks with less than 2' span between the racks, I figured I'd be ok.....

You can run bed racks with a toneau cover long as you get racks that the bases are designed to fit with them. they have a flattened base peice and are wider/offset in order to allow the rack uprights to be out of the way of the toneau cover. I have a freind that has a setup like that for hauling whitewater canoes.
I did the 2 yakima roof racks on the cab of the truck for several years on the Chevy 2500 we had at the time. Hauled all kinds of sit on top kayaks on it while towing a tag along camper. Even toted a Hobie PA 14 up there with no issues. Well other than the weight of that beast getting it up there. We now have a F350 and wish I could do the same thing with a front goal post now that we have a 5th wheel. But our year F350, I can't find a roof rack system that fits that truck.

I ended up buying Yakima racks for the top of the trucks, and avoided the bed all together. The directions specifically wanted me to place the racks only 32" apart.
I have an extra 15"of truck that I could easily utilize. It seems silly not to. Does anyone have a recommendation for me spreading the bars out much further?

My rear one is further back.....I will dig out my instructions later and see what the recommended distance is....I pushed it back a little further closer to the pillar....I don’t see how that could hurt....I’ve run it this way for a couple of years now.

Thanks, I would love to see that, and hear about what exact measurement you are using for bar spacing

I dug out my original instruction sheet with my hand written notes on it....I hope this makes sense
The front bar is supposed to be 9 7/8" back from the top of the windshield....I used the measurement for my front bar, you really can't go much farther towards the windshield because of the curvature of the roof.
According to the instruction sheet, the rear bar should be 29" (center of bar to center of bar) back from front bar. I am not so sure that that measurement was intended for the "Super crew"cab. I think it might have been intended for the extended cab with the smaller rear doors.....I got on the Thule website and could not get a definitive answer....I even e-mailed Thule and received a very vague reply....
I wound up placing my rear bar (again center to center) 43" behind my front bar and it has worked out well. I've traveled thousands of miles with boats strapped up there and have had no issues whatsoever.....I hope this helps...
