While I have spent my entire life outdoors and know most of the trees and plants at my feet, most of the common bird speicies, I heard something new to me this past week while out turkey hunting. What I finally figured was the call of the Boreal Owl in the wee hours. Further research suggests that they aren't as far south (the Baldwin/Spring Valley area) as I heard them. Also, the Tufted Tit is in my neighborhood this year(St. Croix Valley) a first for me. I know we are on the western edge of the Tit mouse range, but the Boreal owl? Curios to hear from Real birders.
