I need a new sleeping mat. This is more for general camping than BW. I absolutely require an insulated mat with enough thickness so I don't get sore hips/back (I am a female and hips digging into the ground is a thing and I don't like it).

I have slept on an Exped downmat 9 and loved it. I need a new mat and would just buy the Exped downmat 9, but I haven't been paying attention to gear lately and thought maybe there is something else out there that I don't know about yet. A plus if it's cheaper than the Exped.

I'll just give a plug for Exped's customer service, as good as it gets. Oh and the shnozzel! I've been a fan for about 8 years.

We also have 2 different BA Q-core mats. Very nice. I haven't slept on either, but they have a nice feal, well made and are comfortable to lay on.

Last mat is a Klymite and while priced right, and good enough for my kids, I wouldn't use in today's age where there are so many nice options.

You probably can't go wrong with either of those or a neo air or Sea to Summit. I suggest buying at REI, and if it isn't what you want, return it. Test it at home so you can return it clean and in good faith.

Get the DM9 and sleep well! Or, if you never plan on portaging it, the MegaMat.

Nola, you'll know my suggestion and it still holds. I still use an Exped 9 down for cold weather and an Exped 5s for mild weather. The 5 is a short 60 inch down filled 2 inch thick, not as cushy but comfortable for me. Lots of choices available but I have gone down the down rabbit hole and will not come back!

If the Exped Downmat 9 worked, get it. I have lots of pads and not one comes close to being as insulating as the Downmat 9. Since it's for general camping get the wide version- you won't regret it.

Exped Downmat 7. I love it. Almost as comfortable as my bed at home.

I have the Downmat 7 UL and love it. Not sure if it is as thick as the 9 or not, but they are usually a bit cheaper and a tiny bit lighter IIRC. I sort of wanted the 9 but found such a great deal on the 7UL that I could not pass up. It’s more than warm enough for 3 season BWCA . I use mine for 10-15 nights in the winter too, though I add a Z-rest for a bit more warmth and safety.

I have 3 expeds, and they are all great mats. That said, for the past 3 years or so I have used a Nemo Cosmo. Easier to inflate and wider for me.
