Just wanted to give a little shout out to BDBs. Did a couple day trip to Seagull this week. Paddled to a site on the SW side of the lake, dumped my packs off, and went out fishing for the day. Canoe wasn’t super organized, but I didn’t think much about it since I wasn’t portaging.

Ended up by the Alpine portage and decided to cross. Didn’t realize how much BDBs help with tying everything into the canoe until I portaged without them, since my bag of them were still in my pack. From now on, I will always have a stash of them on me or in a tackle box for those “just in case” moments.

I leave 4-6 BDB’s on the canoe thwarts and seat bars all the time to secure paddles, fishing poles and such on portages. The detachable Prism solo canoe yoke also gets “ BDB’ed” to a thwart to keep from losing it if I flip the canoe.

They are the handiest things ever!

Love them! A definite must to help secure things in the boat.

I have a few secured in my Merlin at all times. I also have a few Velcro strips wrapped around my thwarts too.

They make great stocking stuffers come Christmas time as well. I also have a couple extra on a thwart ready to go as some of you have already mentioned.

Had seen them advertised in BWJ many times, but never played with them until finding two in a Quetico campsite several years ago. They're great, and are now along on every canoe trip. Especially handy for organizing paddles, etc, on portages.

Just used about 8 of them every day for a week-long trip. Rods, paddles, etc...secured for portaging!

We have about 10 in use on our canoe while traveling. 2 each on 2 collapsible rods on the thwarts. 2 more for our long rods tied along the inside of the canoe. The others aren't used while paddling and then get paddles for portages.

We do also like the nite-ize huge twist-tie things and use those for some of those jobs too. However, the BDB is great and we usually carry at least 10 more for whatever other needs come up.

Give it a try in our store and see if it will take the order.

Old Scout, the inventor and manufacturer of BDBs, is a friend of mine. He also lives about 30 rods west of me. I've been using BDBs for well over a decade, and I cannot say enough good things about them. I wonder how I got along for the first 30 years of tripping without them. I have them tied in several places for easy access...on my thwarts, on my packs, and in my pockets. I also use them for cord control in my house and in my office.

They are great for connecting water bottles to the outside of packs, fastening leech buckets to a tree branch, or for use as clothespins on your clothesline. Also work well to cinch up a contractor bag/bag liner inside your pack.

They're great!

BDB's are one of those crazy simple inventions that are indispensable for so many uses. Sort of like 'Why didn't I think of that'?

Hi Argo, I was unable to order them from the BWCA store but found a place in London, ON that sells them, London's Paddle Shop. I ordered 8 for my upcoming WCPP trip.

I second the shout out. I ordered multiples because of this thread. I love them. Thanks to whoever started the thread. I had heard of them but never ordered any.

I’m having a good time Bungee Dealee Bobbing up my house and my life! Does anyone have pictures of innovative and creative ways you have used them?

Agreed they are awesome. Our very first trip we bought a few from the outfitter after reading about them here. Initially I was a little skeptical and didn't think I would like them that much but after using on that first trip I have never looked back! Now i make sure to pick up a few more each time we are there because i never want to run out!

It may be hard to see, but the compass is bdb'd on the portage yoke the entire trip. Just look down and you know
directions.
