Hey all,

I am planing a trip to BWCA in September coming from TN. I have a 17' ultralight touring kayak I am planning to bring. TN does not require registration of personal unpowered watercraft so it is not registered. I have read on several older threads that people have had issues getting ticketed for unregistered craft but I found the following info on the Minnesota fish and wildlife website:

"A watercraft license is not required for:
Non-motorized watercraft 10 ft or less, or a watercraft owned by a person from another state and that state does not require licensing of that type of watercraft and it is not within Minnesota for more than 90 consecutive days. See MN Boating Guide for more information."

So has the law changed and it is no longer required? or is registration required for the BWCA but not the whole state? clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I believe what you found is correct. If you're legal in your state you're legal up there unless you're there for a few months

And yes, the law changed a few years ago.
