Let's see some pictures showing there is another world out there.
Favorites are BWCA photos of the million like stars you can only see in areas you have no light pollution. Those photos remind you we are only a speck in the universe and what is going on. You can gaze up into the heavens all night. Maybe we are not that important. Maybe we are?
Enough babbling - any nighttime pictures, nice pictures of a camp fire or peaceful calm water pictures while in a quiet place. BWCA or Quetico. Let's see those photos.

I really love those foggy calm mornings, climbing out of the tent, they are something that's hard to explain. Also you can usually hear the loons off in the distance wailing and flying around talking to other loons during those times.

Pinetree, I like paddling into the fog too. It's a little scary. Ghosty. Spooky. You paddle to where you hope you're going and then suddenly, a shoreline or rock looms, but it's great fun too.
I rise early to fish, but I often simply paddle or drift and watch in gratitude.

I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

It has it own mystic about it. A little unknown what is ahead. Yes, often I think I am going in a straight line and end up in a circle. It is just your own little world for a time.

This was always a favorite of Bernice!
Nothing more peaceful then a happy grandson!"
Yes Bernice looking of into the fog is a good one. Its your own little world. So quite. One of the great attributes of the BWCA is quite. So relaxing. better than yoga( I could never get into that)

A little ways down river from this photo, I found a lamb that had fallen into the river. I picked it up, cuddled it, and took it to flat section of bank to return it to the shepherd. She told me that there was no hurry to hand it to her, that it was traumatized by its time in the river and cuddling was good for it. There is nothing as peaceful as cuddling with a lamb!
I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

Nice Michael."
love walking out west in the mountain valleys and a heavy dew, I can see where the elk just were there before me.
morning pictures in the BWCA toward fall when the water is warm and the air is cold you get that nice steam rolling of the water. All you need is a moose wading along the shore.

^^^ What she said. ^^^ Some amazing photos there.

I take delight knowing that on that evening, on that lake, only the eyes of the people in our group got this view. "
Yes it is very special and I consider a great privilege to have a lake to the group I am camping with. Its all yours for that moment in time.
Go outside the BWCA and most lakes are ringed with 100's of cabins and boats and jet skiis running all over.
Love that silence of the canoe country.

I grew up vacationing with my family in a cabin with motorboats, water skiers etc. and it was my "normal". Then I started going canoe camping and now I'm totally jaded or spoiled or whatever you call it. I just can't do the cabin on the crowded lake thing anymore let alone fish around the Chicago suburbs with trash on the shores. Yep, I'm officially a wilderness snob but I only tell people like yourselves because I know most of you can relate.

A variation on the theme:
"Such views as these are reserved for those who would suffer to see them." - Eric Severeid
Only difference is I wouldn't always call being in the BW "suffering." Sometimes, but not very often.

There all very beautiful and peaceful. When I was younger, I would have a hard time just sitting there and enjoying the peaceful scene. Now older, I could sit there for hours and just absorb some of that when I can."
Me too, Pinetree. I've always liked to sit and stare. Here I am, age "early 20's" somewhere around Pietro with my brother, no PFD the whole time :(
Still have, and wear, this sweater. The paddle, pack and sleeping pad are a-long-time-gone....

I love these photos. Especially some of my favorite trout lakes on a calm day. Trolling the edge of the reflection of tree line images in the water is so relaxing, and than getting a lake trout on. Can't get any better than that."
We were on the way out from Frost back to Sawbill and were paddling down Gordan when we realized we were on a giant mirror.
I had that picture turned in to a 1000 piece puzzle.

walllee: "Lake Superior off Grand Marais "
still remember canoeing along Tetachouce State park on lake Superior-looked dead calm but it still has those long rollers of waves and sitting in the solo canoe looking down 30-40 feet water was so clear it was like sitting on glass and air was underneath you. I felt like I quite couldn't get a real confidence of my balance in the water like usual.

Country boy's tractor. Texas Hill Country, peaceful and quite. "
I love this photo. I was born on the West Coast and now live on the East Coast, but I spent decades in the middle, living on three farms, and fields and tractors look like home to me.

I am in Northern Virginia. Just east of the Blue Ridge. That photo was from Shenandoah NP. It is a secret lookout....shhhhh...Lots of DC folks who have discovered the outdoors may find it. At one point during this Pandemic, they had to shut it down because of the traffic.

Nice! We're in western NC, and about 20 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway's intersection with US-276. Heading up there this morning--time for Grass of Parnassus to start blooming in a couple spots. We have reservations for a few nights in Shenandoah NP's Big Meadows Campground next month.

Well then that overlook is on Hawksbill summit trail. It is before the often visited summit when you come from the "backside". Most people take the trail that leads them straight up to the built up summit. Park at Lower Hawksbill and take the trail to the right. It is white trail on the map. I think it may be the AT. You can get an idea by the topo where to look for the spot. Have fun.

I have a fungi obsession. I 100% love them. I was walking in the woods tonight, I turned a corner, and saw this lovely specimen. It was huge and flawless. I know the pictures are a little fuzzy. Camera was shaking as I swatted. : ) I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes but I had to go see it up close. It’s hard to explain how beautiful it was in real life. If memory serves correctly, light shone down from heaven and music played when I saw it. Lol
I’ll try and get a better photo, but probably some kid or animal will ruin it.

I do volunteer work with an organization that is restoring Illinois Prairie. I was out on the Prairie and took a picture of this thistle. If you zoom in, the little bug is looking at me. I thought it was an interesting photo.
My fun guy is still there. And a random after the storm rainbow photo.

Nice photo's and glad for your volunteer work. I hope all of us give back something to nature in their own way. Thanks.

Thanks, PT. I get back so much more than I give. There’s really nothing like standing in the middle of the Prairie being the only person for a couple miles.
Today, I was doing some trail work in the woods, when I saw this group several times throughout the day. Much needed therapy after dealing with an icky situation at work.Gobble
