Hey everybody!

My son and I are heading up next weekend for a week long stay. We have been up for the last few years and have killed the Smallies in this area. Problem is, we can't ever seem to get on the Walleye bite. Any suggestions on how to zero in on the eyes in this area? The area is much rockier than where we are in Western Michigan and are usual jigging rap tactics haven't transferred well. Slip bobber fishing is boring, so looking for a little more interactive method to keep him interested. We would appreciate any and all pointers that you could send our way. Thank you!!!

I had the opposite problem, did not catch a single smallmouth in 5 days last year but did fairly well on the Walleye. Heading back in a week and plan to troll some this time and fish the power plant. I think I am better equipped this year with knowledge shared by members on here.

Good luck

Will you be in a canoe or boat with a motor?

We had great Smallie success with 3.5" Berkeky power tubes in watermelon red fleck. Also dis well with black/blue skirted jigs, with a small paddle tail trailer.

Good luck to you too! We'll be there from the 12th through the 20th giving it everything we've got!

Not till the 26th. Coming up to Ely on the 19th. Staying at a house on Shawaga with a buddy and his son..
Got site 14 booked for a week.
Look for my flag.
When are you there?

10th to the 23rd. Motor boat fishing with my cousin for several days, then canoe day trips for a week. I hope this makes up for my first missed Q trip in 22 years.

When fishing Fall Lake, I usually back troll using either jigs with leeches, a gold spinner with a leech, or a drop shot using a plain red hook with leech (TGO's method is also a winner). When on the lake, we really look for shore line structure, dead heads, and moving water to fish around. A few spots to try for walleye are around Mile Island (I've had more success on the southern side), the south side of the island to the right of the Newton portage, the water flow from the powerhouse, and just about any bay with a wind blown weed line. Also, we did well throwing Rapalas in the Newton River (we actually caught more walleye than bass). Love Fall Lake and the campground and I can't wait to get up there!

Thanks for the tips! I'm sure we'll try them all while we're up there. Bought a new fillet knife for the trip and hope I get to put it to good use on some Walleye this year!
