I purchased this hand made boat about four years ago when I was looking for a light weight tripper. This isn't it, just not the right layup. I have done two trips and it performs fantastic, I don't want to damage the boat. Flared bow, sharp lines and a fun boat to paddle. SN# is a Grassy River/ Neuman Designs # so not sure if it was a prototype or what. Definitely a unique ride IMO.

For a day tripper/fitness boat this is great and it will do a week worth of gear and ride fine. It is lively, but not too much. I probably have paddled it 60 days and have gone over once while boarding in the dark off a beaver dam....I digress.

I scaled it at 32#. Comes with a hidden river yoke. Light scratches.

$1,400

Skier et al. Yes, still available. I must have not marked it to notify on the thread so apologies.

Price drop to $1,300.

Would like to trim the fleet. :(

How would you compare it to more standard solo makes/models? As far as how it paddles, shape, etc. Or what is it that doesn't quite fit you about it?

If you're really interested, GRB (Grasse River Boatworks) Newman website . They are based on the Grass River, Canton, NY. It looks like a prototype of the Classic. There's "news" of someone paddling a cedar strip prototype of a different canoe, so . . .

You should be able to find reviews and commentary of their boats on paddling.com

This is certainly related to GRB boats in some way. The SN is a GRB #, so looking at specs this is right in line with the classic.

I would compare this to a Savage River Blackwater or a GRB Classic though I haven't paddled either, but the specs are there and the shape/design. It's not a boat made to fish out of I will say that.

Though I have paddled a number of solos, I will give you my thoughts v. the two others I own and have a lot of time in.

Compared to a Prism, it get's up to speed faster, certainly turns easier and is more responsive. It is a performance boat. It has less freeboard than the Prism ( I think the Prism is excessive) and so paddling is for me less effort. I also have a Sawyer Summersong which won't turn even close to this but tracks a bit better. Very low freeboard and Goldenglass make the Summersong not my tripping boat.

I did the boarder route last June in a Prism and would have been happy in the stripper but for some heavy waves on Basswood and the Pigeon Rive that left a few mementos on the haul.

What don't I like? The layup like I said. When I bought this, a Savage Rive was out of the question so this was a next best option at half the price.

I am trimming my fleet from 5 to 3 sadly. I need garage space.

John
