Glad you had a good trip. About portage speed: I think when we are overloaded we take shorter steps and just move more slowly. That could explain why you found that double portaging with reasonable loads isn’t that much slower. The unloaded trip can be really fast, except it is such a good opportunity to take pictures. I got a lot of joy from fast and light trips with smooth single portaging but on a trip with friends who wanted to double I learned to enjoy that too.
That’s a great site! We got it one year on what was supposed to be just an overnight stop on Malberg. But our nephews liked it so much that we stayed another night to enjoy the beach for a full day.

Thanks for the report. I'd say Andy is right about the portage speed - it's a lot easier to walk at a normal speed with 50 lbs. than 100 lbs. A lot more enjoyable too! :). I also find that as a trip goes along, I'm a tad bit quicker at the routine of putting on the yoke, etc. I'll bet you wish you a few more days though . . .

Thanks for posting. I'm heading that way in July and after seeing your pics, I hope we can grab that site on our way.
I wasn't aware of waterfalls on Malberg. Can you tell me where to find them?

We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.

I read and enjoyed your report and photos. I would like to see your kayak with the yoke setup you used. What does the kayak weigh? We were on that route last week. We checked out Campsite 1051 where you stayed but it was occupied, but we found Campsite 1042 open on the west bay, which was very nice and large. Four of the nine campsites on Malberg were occupied on the afternoon of 6/22/2020, but I was delighted we did not have to settle for one of the 1 or 2 star rated sites.
