I’m taking my 11 year old nephew on a 4-day trip in the middle of the week in July. It will be his first time and would like to do some hiking one day, if possible. Any route ideas? We’re willing to move for 3-5 hours each day, but don’t want difficult paddling or long portages. We will not be fishing.

Little Indian Sioux North EP #14 would fit your criteria. There are several places you can intersect the Sioux Hustler Trail. The lakes aren't huge. A small loop is possible around Shell Lynx and Heritage. There are a lot of blueberries in the area that time of year. Visiting Devils Cascade also is a way to access the Sioux Hustler Trail. Only drawback is permit availability. There is 1 permit available each day for the 7th, 16th and 17th in July. So you'd want to reserve something quickly.

Rose Lake one the opposite side would be another good option.
