Has anyone been through or stayed at Manomin Lake? It sits between Newfound Lake and Basswood Lake. Looking for any info at all on the lake in regards to being a good lake to stay on. Trip is in Mid August. Lake depth, Fishing, any info on the two camp sites, is it shallow and mostly full of weeds, is water color similar to basswood or is it more murky. Trying to figure out if it's good place to stay or should we venture onward.

I've looked at it before on maps but that's as far as I made it. Seems like it would get passed by from most people since it's a dead end lake. Good chance for solitude but near highly traveled areas.

Never been there, but I've seen it on maps. "Manomin" is of course the Ojibiway word for wild rice, which grows in shallow muddy lakes, so that tells you something there. It might be interesting just to check out and find some solitude, but I wouldn't go in there expecting to find much for fish.

From MNDNR Lakefinder: Manomin Lake is located approximately 16 miles NE of Ely in the BWCAW. This shallow lake has shorelines that are covered with dense conifers growing near the water's edge. The rocky shoreline quickly changes to a muck bottom and aquatic plants are common. There are two designated USFS campsites present and they appear to have little use. Manomin has a history of periodic partial winterkills which can affect the present fish community.

Yellow perch numbers in 2015 (16.0/gill net) were identical to the long term average on this lake. The average perch sampled was 7.8 inches long and the largest perch was 10.2 inches.

White sucker numbers in 2015 (13.0/gill net) were identical to the long term average on this lake. The average sucker sampled was 12.6 inches long and the largest sucker was 18.9 inches.

Northern pike were sampled in low numbers (0.7/gill net) and their lengths ranged from 15.9 to 18.4 inches long.

One golden shiner and one pumpkinseed were sampled. One 6.9 inch largemouth bass was also sampled. This is the first report of largemouth in this lake.

We tried to find the portage into Manomin August 2022, but couldn't access where we thought it should be due to weeds/muck.
