Going in Sept 25 hoping to base camp on Crystal. Was wondering what traffic is like this time of year in the area?

Typically you'd encounter much less traffic at that time of year. Obviously, this is NOT a typical year but, I still think you should be OK. Canoe, Alder & Pierz lakes all have good fallback sites and it wouldn't require a lot of sweat equity to get to any of them.
