My son and I caught our first lakers this year. Josh caught his trolling a blue and silver deep diving Repala with a 3/4oz keel sinker about 18” ahead. This was the first laker we ever caught in a canoe. WOW, was only 18 inches, but that was fun!
About a half hour later, I hooked a much larger one on a blue and silver Krokidile spoon with a 1/2oz keel sinker about 18” ahead. Got it to the surface, but Josh missed with the net and it was gone. That fish drug the canoe sideways.
I have caught them fishing in Lake Superior and Michigan with down riggers and diver rods, but this was way more fun. Pan seared it with lemon pepper and onion in olive oil. Was ok, but need more practice cooking this fish. We like walleyes better. Oh, and we were on Little Trout Lake.
