Hey folks. Any thoughts on converting my Merlin to a tandem canoe so my wife could trip with me? It would only be on daytrips or maybe short 1-2 nighters, so I'm not too worried about pack space, load, etc.

I'd keep the seat in the middle for solo's, but add 2 more seats or at least the brackets that would allow me to mount the seats relatively quickly.

Before you start tearing in to things . I'd put something to sit on and try it, with the two of you.

Bruce Kunz who Designed the original Merlin was maybe 145# soaking wet. I having built a couple of them. I'd say no .

Jim is right. Not enough volume with that boat for two. I would suspect unwanted swimming would occur.

Having paddled a Merlin thousands of miles across many bodies of water I can assuredly say absolutely not.
