These are our go-to maps in the BWCA, but they are not the easiest maps to source.

Adam,
I am thinking about getting a second set of maps for a backup. If I were to purchase these through the site, would BWCA.com get any kickback funds? Just want to help the site out.

Thanks.

Nice of you to ask, Minnesotian. Adam can elaborate if he cares to, but the short answer is yes. BWCA.com buys the maps wholesale and sells them as a retailer, just like any other store. Proceeds support the website.

That is correct. We purchased these and are selling them. If you buy something through the store, you also get a credit for supporting the site.

Thanks for considering it!

Once you use the Voyageur, you will never return to McKenzie. Seriously.

I just put an order in. I really like your reasonable shipping charges vs. some of the outfitters I tried to order from. Thanks.

I second that on reasonable shipping prices. I got mine a couple of days ago. How nice to be able to order it directly from this site. And some of the money goes to the site. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Do the Voyageur maps have lake topo data? what do people like best about them? Thinking of getting a set.

Y topo
I like the paper, the color (land is light green not brown and not as "distracting") and detail. McKenzie scale is 1:31,680 so I like it for shoreline paddling. Voyageur is 1:42,340. I like voyageur for planning and big picture (the backside shows all of BWCA). They're a great price, not always that easy to find and good cause.

These are my favorite too. I like the historic and fishing info on the back....as well as the map colors. Time to dig out our stash and buy any that we don't have yet....

Or.....I'll just order the whole darn set cause that's what I just did.

I've spent $100 on worse things than BDBs, BWCA maps, and a decal. Thanks!

Just received my maps. Thanks for offering them.

When looking at the fishing table, how do I interpret the clarity figures? Do larger numbers mean better clarity? What do the values represent?

Yep, higher number means better water clarity. For example, Clearwater Lake off the Gunflint Trail, is at 30, whereas Basswood is at 8.5.

I assume the values reflect readings from a Secchi Disk. A Secchi Disk is a all-white metal plate they lower into the water and record the depth as to which it disappears. So, on Clearwater it is 30 feet. On Basswood it is 8.5 feet.

thanks! I thought it was likely a secchi disk reading but I scoured the maps front and back and couldn't find it to be sure.

Just got my map set today! Now I don't have to worry about their availability anymore. And some BDBs and stickers because, why not? :)

Do the Voyageur Maps also have the Voyageur National in another set?
I track the Fall Border Route Challenge using these and need to include the area from Dove Point (Black Bay, Kabetogama) through Namakan to the BWCA entrance at Little Vermillion. I also would like to have the Dawson Portage area. Any ideas??

Voyageur Maps consist of 10 maps that cover the BWCA proper. There are some lakes shown near the US/Canadian border portages, but no portage information is given north of the border.

I think they were using Flash Player in order to view. Once I uninstalled it a few days ago, since it’s no longer supported, I now only see a small box in the corner with an “X” in it.

Yep. With my other browser I see "Adobe Flash 9 or greater is required to view the interactive map on this page."

I asked Santa for the set, and he came through! (Well, Mrs. Claus did)
I am not sure "we" got credit for supporting the site, but I also bought some hats, some bungie-dealie-bobs things, so not worried about getting credit for it. I really like these maps so far, but have yet to use them "out yonder." I live in North Carolina, so don't get up there often. Ah well....

Just received my #6 to help with an upcoming Granite River/Sag/RedRock/Alpine/Seagull loop. Have the Mackenzie also and must say that I do like the finer/cleaner details of the Voyageur version!

Only "complaint" (common to both Voyageur and Mackenzie versions), is that a single map cuts off the S.E. edge of this loop - with a further thought/opinion that as this trip is a loop (and a popular one at that)...then this should have been given consideration in designing these maps.

I'm thinking that a set of 10 Voyageur Maps would be a great gift to yourself or your paddling buddy(ies).

Remember that any purchase from BWCA.com store supports the website.

Is there a preference of one source over the other?

I hadn't thought about needing one map per canoe, but it makes sense. Our son has maps, but his dad and I will be in a different canoe.

Now is a great time to review your map inventory as you prepare for next year's trip.

Remember that maps purchased from BWCA.com help to support the site.

Voyageur Maps cover the entire BWCA with only 10 maps.

I ordered a map this week for my trip in August. I'm excited to see what the Voyageur maps are like.

My wife makes fun of me saying I read maps like someone leafing through a magazine.
