Just bought a 1986 Sawyer canoe with a few blemishes on the hull where you can see the kevlar underneath. Do they use a gelcoat on the outside or is it just a fiberglass resin? It also had a bit of hairline cracking in some areas. I assume this also needs to be repaired as well to be seaworthy? Pics coming soon.

From the looks of the picture it has a gel coat. If you are only looking to make it sea worthy I would assume that you could just use bondo resin to repair it. If you wanted to make it pretty you could gel coat repair. I bet if you emailed Sawyer they would be able to help you out with what to use and how to fix it.

On the hull blemishes I would just put a little resin over them. Hairline cracks are not a big deal but could have a bit of resin overlay as well.

I would repair the dinged kevlar with marine epoxy and a patch of fiberglass cloth. Kevlar boats are lightly built and need to be re-inforced when they take hits. You can fill the weave with epoxy and sand it out. I like to paint them after repairs.
