Hey all, anybody been to Trout Lake? Is it haunted or something? Judging by the available permits, it seems pretty quiet.

Big lake, far corner of the park, motors allowed for some areas, not a ton of trip options as far as routes unless you get serious with portaging. And getting there via Vermillion offers more challenges.

Yea, trout lake is nice. Deep and clear. Yes there are permits available, but it gets a lot of day use fisherman in boats off of Vermilion (there's a truck portage) so don't think no one goes there. Just not so many overnight paddlers. And the biggest drawback is you have a fairly long paddle on Vermilion just to get to the portage. But by all means it's worth the trip. Lots of good fishing in the surrounding lakes too.

I took a trip in there about 25 years ago. As the others mentioned, it’s a motor lake. We portaged into Pine lake, which we had to ourselves. Caught massive bass in there.

I had never been to this part of the Bdub until 2 years ago. Trout Lake permit was all that remained for a quick weekend getaway and it worked out perfectly for us. The motorboat traffic crossing Vermillion was annoying, but the paddle itself wasn't bad at all. The portage into Trout is easy. Then we simply ducked into Pine Lake and had a lovely, barely used campsite for 2 nights. We took a day trip to Pine Creek and had a lovely lunch on an overlook near the start of the portage to Chad Lake.
