Curious about both Granite Gear and CCS packs.

How does one measure for torso length for these packs?
At what point should it definitely be a 'short torso' pack being used?
Has anyone really noticed a big difference?

Pack sizing.
Personally I'm short at 5 1/2 feet. Short legs average torso overweight. My torso is 19+ inches and I use a regular size pack with men's straps and belt. Small is too short to be comfortable, I have tried them. GG will swap out sizes on unused belts and straps for free.

From the GG website,
Short Torso = 15-18inches
Regular Torso = 18-21inches
Long Torso = 21-24inches

CCS is not as flexible in sizing.

From REI website regarding measuring torso Length.
"With the help of a friend, locate the bony bump at the base of your neck. This is where the slope of your shoulder meets your neck, also known as the seventh vertebra. Tilt your head forward to locate it more easily.
Using a flexible tape measure, have your friend start measuring at that spot down your spine, following the curves of your back.
Place your hands on your hips to feel your iliac crest, the twin pointy protrusions on the front of your hips. Position your hands so your thumbs are reaching behind you.
Finish measuring at the point where the tape crosses an imaginary line between your thumbs. This distance is your torso length."

Neither Granite Gear or CCS Packs have adjustable torso Lengths on their portage packs.

From Granite gears website "Regular Torso 18” -21 NOTE: Vapor suspension packs do not have adjustable torso lengths on the pack body."

CCS offers a Short Torso in the hybrid canoe pack line for those under 17" Torso Length. The CCS short torso has a sewn 2" shorter than standard torso Length.

Both companies will swap out unused hip belts for smaller or larger Hip belt lengths.
