I've found a couple of options, but am struggling on which one to get. Can someone recommend a nice three season tarp, please?
I love the CCS stuff, but it's kinda spendy, I have no doubt that they're worth it, but I don't want to spend that much just yet.
Curious as to whether an asym tarp is enough three season coverage...

I like the Warbonnet Thunderfly. I have used it May to September. It handles driving wind and rain very well.

I use the Warbonnet Superfly. It's all you'll need.

I just bought a HG journey it has one more tie out cheaper and a bit lighter (if I remember) Than the super fly so I’m wondering why the super fly.

Check out “Chill Gorilla” for a lower cost tarp. I purchased a tarp with the four doors at around $80.00. Have used it and very happy with it.

Personal preference. They look about the same.

Are you talking about a tarp for your hammock? If so, then I would stick with the hammock specific tarps from folks like Warbonnet or Hammock Gear. My personal preference is the Warbonnet Superfly as the doors are great when it's driving rain or particularly cold and windy. I LOVE CCS gear and have a couple tundra tarps, but they are designed for community shelter, not hammock protection.

Does the SF have a seam on the ridge line? Curious to know too if anyone has or has used any of Dutch's tarps.

The Superfly kinda has a seam at the ridgeline but it's not one that would get seam sealed. the only spot you would seam seal is the side pullouts. I haven't used Dutch's tarps but I use his Chameleon hammock and have a ton of his bling. I'm sure his tarps are high quality. You can't go wrong with any of the cottage vendors, I'm just a fan of the Superfly. I would personally recommend getting a hammock tarp made out of Silpoly as opposed to Silnylon. Silpoly won't stretch when it gets wet the way silpoly does.

I have CCS, UGQ Hanger, UGQ Rectangle (no longer made) Love all. Also a simply light asym and I would not risk it. I did ride out a huge storm in it, and I mean huge but I think I got really lucky with wind.

I need one more as my wife needs one and I will buy another UGQ hanger or maybe a rectangle from Dutch.

I also would get a 12', I have spent to much time in the rain, bad karma I guess.

On my last trip I got to borrow the spreader bars for the Warbonnet Superfly I use. They are really great and so much easier to rig vs. putting a line through the pullouts and tying off. They keep the tarp from sagging in on you during a wind and give you more room underneath in general. Last week I ordered a pair for myself for $35.

I agree w/ the dedicated Hammock tarp option.. I've been BWCA hanging for 4 yrs now... I would NOT recommend a tarp w/o some end protection for the swirling, heavy wind rains in the BWCA.

Tarp w/ Doors:
* UGQ Winter Dream
* Warbonnet Superfly
* SLD - Simply Light Designs (Winter Haven?) - I forget the name... Like UGQ and Warbonnet, SLD's stuff is top notch and sewn to order very quickly!

Tarp w/ 'winglets':
* Warbonnet: Mini, Thunder or Mtn Fly

I have a UGQ Winter Dream w/ internal end pole mods... truly a joy !!! able to go from porch mode to hunker down 'oh chit' mode in seconds w/o leaving the tarp. I use dutch fleaz on the corners and dutch stingrz on the ridge.

I also have a WB Thunderfly... this too will keep you dry. I have the external poles and although very nice for room, it's not the same as the porch mode w/ the UGQ and internal poles. It's what I take when hiking or really getting weight conscious (which is typically not the BWCA).

In the buttoned down photo... the wind/rain was from the uphill side... I set that side lower and the result allowed me to hang, looking downhill enjoying the view from the hammock in the rain. This was at a scout camp.

In the open UGQ photos... this was a BWCA trip w/ heavy rain every night... all the tents got wet, I stayed dry.

I have the SuperFly, but just looking at the Journey, id say specs are better, lighter perhaps by a few oz and has the center tie out on the bottom, i wish i had that on my tarp vs just the end tieouts, looks cheaper as well. HG also ask you during order process if the Tarp is for a Bridge hammock, and it dosnt appear to be any charge for this, which im assuming lowers the pull-outs for a bridge spreader bar, Warbonnet probably charges for this.
