I'm looking to get into the area of LLC north of Beatty portage and perhaps as far east as Tekucmich. I'm just curious how the fishing has been given the heat of early to mid July and then the rolling waves of thunderstorms we've had lately. (Side note: I was just up in the BWCA area as well as south of Ely on Birch lake this past weekend. Walleye and yellow perch fishing was okay as well as the usual pan and pike fishing -- the latter not by me though).

I'm not looking for specific spots, I have a fish finder and I know where I'll target for lakers and eyes. I'm just curious as to conditions and overall results -- are lakers too deep to target?

There are smelt in LLC so some LT and even eyes could be very deep like 100'.

Good to know! Thanks. I've been talking to another member who had just recently fished the area. There are indeed LT's deep and walleyes particularly around the islands. It's complicated structure though as I look at my voyageur maps. I think Mackenzie's give similar contour information.

When I bought it, I didn't look closely at my McKenzie for LLC (#13 I think), but it did not have contours. I was surprised but didn't notice until I was there.

There was a bumper crop of frogs on the shorelines. The topwater frog like stuff was fun for the smallmouth.

You may still see/hear boats between Beatty portage and Snow Bay. (and also could have a boat on Canadian side the whole length)

We stayed in Snow Bay for a few nights in August a few years back. Generally decent smallie and walleye fishing

Yes, I'm sure there will be boats! It's the closest thing to solitude I'll probably see in the BWCA this year without heading to a PMA. SM action is probably going to be poppers. I think I've got a rubber frog or two kicking in around in my tackle that I can pack. Thanks for the tips.

Weather is looking more reasonable for next week (i.e. less heat) which is a good thing. Just have to finalize my tow with Anderson's. Spoke to them again today.

Yes, you're right. I packed my maps up today and only Voyageur maps had the contours, not the Mckenzies.
