I usually bring neoprene water shoes as camp shoes, they fit over socks, are soft and cozy, and smush to nothing in the gear pack. But my current pair are disgusting and there are none to be found at the moment. So I bought crocs, which I gather many people love as camp shoes.

Will they get smushed in the pack? Should I tie them on the outside of my pack somehow? Any croc as camp shoe advice?

Crocs work, they just take up a ton of space and are awkward to pack. They should be fine in your pack. I used to take Crocs, but I found cheap plastic slip-ons on Amazon that pack down well and work great with a pair of wool socks.

I’ve taken Crocs, worked ok and nice for wet footing in warmer weather. What they lack on portability they make up for by weighing next to nothing, and they float forever if you flip the canoe. At least, so I heard. I mean it couldn’t have been me that flipped, no way. I’d never do that, or at least never admit to it, so I must have heard that from someone else, yea, that’s it!

Crocs are excellent camp shoes. I clip mine to the exterior of my pack if space is an issue.

I love my crocs as in camp shoes! I started using them instead of my typical tennis shoes (I can't stand wearing sandals) and I will never switch back. They are great because I don't have to worry about them getting wet, I can wear them with socks or without and they slide into those little voids in the corners of the pack that nothing else will fit into.

Have to say i really like crocs as camp shoes on a canoe trip. Comfortable, dry quickly, easy to slip on getting out of the tent. Agree with SummerSkin they are bulky but I typically just smash them into the top of pack with no issues. You could easily attach to the outside of a pack if packs were that tight

I like them because they are light, easy to slip on and off, and reasonably comfortable. I find the original ones to be ankle breakers unless you wear socks (if you get them or your feet wet). I wear them almost every day but I wear cloth ones that have backs and inserts.

Another vote here for Crocs. Super light, super comfy, easy on and off, dry crazy fast, never stink and they float. Not great support and not super packable but those are really the only downsides that I can see.

I have one pair that is at least 10 years old and they are great. I do wear them gardening around the house and stuff and do find that dirt gets into the holes very easily, making for mucky feet. Because of that I ordered a pair without the holes. I haven't had them on a trip yet but as good as they work I do find my feet really sweat in them as they don't breathe well at all.

I brought Cros for the first time this summer, and liked them. I wore the crocs and some watershoes (similar to Keens). They were interchangeable- could both wet but would dry fast. Crocs are lightweight and comfy (for me at least). I have the "off-road" version. Supposed to have better tread, but not sure if they are actually better than other versions.

I'm not sure that anyone has mentioned them, but Crocs makes a pretty solid close-toe "sandal" with a velcro closure. I have a pair and bought them for my son and daughter because they are lightweight, tough and comfortable wear. They also don't slip off. It's just another option to consider.

I started using crocs last year and there is no going back. Love them as a camp shoe. They dry quickly and have pretty good grip for what they are. Highly recommend. Want to jump in the canoe and go fishing? Throw the crocs into off-road mode by putting the heel support on and you're good to go!

I can wear a wide range of ridiculous looking hats when I go into the wilderness but, Crocs ...??? They look just a bit too ridiculous.

Oh: but they look good on YOU though. ;)

Love the convenience and low weight, but mine have almost killed me in a little mud or wet grass. May be the version I have doesn't have the same tread others have.

LOL, I use that all the time with my wife, usually followed by a “you just think you are so funny”.

I fought the Croc phenomenon for years in my family before finally succumbing this spring. Went with the off-road model with the aggressive tread and "adventure straps". Yard slippers I call them. I have not yet used them in the BW as I have a pair of Merrill water shoes I am happy with for that. But they are plenty comfy for use around the house. Cabelas has them currently on sale.

?? Nope, couldn’t have been you. I’ve never capsized either. Especially not in a muddy creek that coated everything in the canoe in muck. Nope.

I’ll admit, that’s what’s kept me away in the past. I’ve got big feet to start with.

Another vote for Croc's here too.
I like them because they are closed cell foam and I can wade into the water and they dry out in minutes once I'm out. And they float! I've never thought they were too much trouble to pack or pack around.

I have a pair just like those except in black. Great canoe sandal/clog. Great middle of the night to pee footwear, also.

I have been bringing Crocs for a while and don't have any plans to change.

One thing to note, though: They are NOT puncture-proof. If you step on a sharp rock or stick, it can come right through and puncture your foot. Just my .02.

Crocs are perfect for a camp shoe. I love that I can just walk in the water with them and they don't absorb any. I always clip them to the outside of the pack myself. That, the map case, and my water bottle are the only exceptions to my rule of not having anything hanging on the outside of my pack, simply because they are so light. The biggest benefit of the crocs really is the water shedding, slip on is great too, but you can't beat dry footwear.

I have taken them two years in a row and yes they are comfy around camp.
Lightweight and dry very fast.
However,
The first year my portage shoes took a hit and I was unable to wear them so I portaged out in my Crocs. Not fun. Wet feet slide around inside of them.

This year I wore them around camp and they were nice. I decided one evening to wear them fishing as well as a pair of socks.

The biting flies worked their way through the little holes in the crocs and bit my feet through the socks. I was one miserable SOB and cut that fishing venture very short.

Next year I will find something different and more resilient to the flies as well as a pair of ankle gaitors to keep them off my ankles where my pants tend to lift a little while seated in the canoe.

Followed the thread advice and bought Crocs. They are great! Dry quick, comfortable and rocks don’t stay in them, just flush out the big holes on the sides. Thanks everyone for recommending them!

I like crocs and use them to go outside all year, even in the snow. I take them backpacking because they weigh nothing. They stay on in the water with a strap. They provide some protection for your toes. They slip on for a trip outside at night.
When the tread starts to wear out, replace them and avoid bad slips and falls.

My Duluth three and five year old grandkids checking out the scratches in my old town canadienne. How do you even explain to them a world that no longer exists? We can pretend wilderness in the bwca but the real stuff in Canada is rapidly disappearing. They are always dressed in the latest fashions, most everything Patagonia. Crocks always until snow. They are awesome...just try it, trust me.

The look though, reminds me of "What, if you buy this hat, you get a free bowl of soup?" "Oh, it looks good on you though!"

I tried crocs for the first time on my 10-day trip earlier this month. I LOVE THEM for camp shoes!!

Teva makes a Croc-style all-rubber sandal called the Omnium Drift. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T3BGZKC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got a pair for $14 on Amazon (now gone up to $40-$50). They're pretty good except that the velcro closure barely sticks at all. I'm going to try a different type of velcro.

There have been some excellent Crocs knockoffs that were actually more comfortable than Crocs (personally I find Crocs too hard underfoot). Crocs won a lawsuit against at least one knockoff company. Others appear briefly on Amazon, like these great shoes I got for $13: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MW3ZNBP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Much more comfortable than my Crocs, for a fraction of the price!

I wear a Croc knockoff for paddling, but not in camp---foot slides around too much. In camp I wear the more rugged Teva Omnium.

Today I took a spill wearing crocs without the straps in place. I fell on the stairs coming out of my travel trailer. Be careful out there.
