Greetings!

Are there any campsites on Picket Lake next to Mudro? Has anyone on here ever been to them on Picket? I've entered thru Mudro into the BWCA twice - I'm curious about Picket and maybe even laying over there for a night if there's a site on that lake. Thanks for any information you can provide!

Beau

I paddled through there in mid-July with my daughter. We were thinking that we could easily reach Nels lake (outside of the bwca) and camp there. There is one campsite on Picket lake, it's in the northwest corner as you head out of the lake (away from the Mudro put-in). We didn't stop there but it looked like it had a flat granite outcropping and the landing looked shallow.

I can't say more about it but the Kawishiwi Ranger station has a hand-out (might be up on their website ) for dispersed camping sites.

As an FYI, we didn't make it to Nels. We found the first bushwhacking portage around a muddy beaver dam area and continued across the lake/marsh to the stream that leads to Nels but we ran out of water before we found a trace of the portage that supposedly is located on the north shore of that stream.

Yes, there is a a campsite. I’d rate it a 2. It’s good for one night. If that’s taken there is another area closer to the parking lot that would be suitable for a tent. If you drive past the latrine there’s a road(path) that leads to an area by the lake. You could set up camp there for night.

Thanks for the input - nice to know of some options! I wish I could've seen the old Chainsaw Sisters Saloon - I had no idea that existed before my maiden trip to Mudro back in 2010.
