I have a September 5 permit for Mudro. I plan to basecamp for 5 or 6 nights and do some fishing. I have never entered at Mudro before. So my question is, for fishing purposes, whether I should stay on Fourtown or Horse? Or maybe Boot?

I don't know if "fall" fishing really applies yet, We did very well on Horse Lake this July. Fished the west side and north islands and caught a ton of walleye and bass. Nothing huge but still good eaters. I lost something big trolling a rapala, probably a northern. We had planned to go day trip and fish Fourtown but never did due to the success at Horse.

Great lake, but you can become windbound though as most sites are on the east shore and the best fishing is on the west side. All depends on the weather.

Enjoy Heart Attack Hill back to Mudro on the way out!

I'd stay on Fourtown. You can easily day trip to Horse, Boot, or Fairy.

I'd say you can't go wrong with Fourtown of Horse. Both have some great campsites, with classic Boundary Waters scenery and fishing. I have only fished them in the Summer, but caught walleye, northern, and bass. I'd also recommend fishing Basswood Falls (up the Horse River). Save Boot for a day trip.
*You don't have the restricted Mudro permit which doesn't allow for camping on Horse, right?
