We’re going to be base camping somewhere near the river split and am just wondering if the Walleyes are near the bottom or more shallow. We plan on trying above and below the rapids and also using slip bobber rigs with leeches elsewhere. Hoping to catch other species too. And by the way, how are the bugs?

HeyFritty; We call my brother Fritz "Fritter", sometimes Fritty.

How was fishing?

I'm putting in at EP29, heading south through Ojibwa and Triangle and then to Kawishiwi River North.

Where is the River Split you speak of and any fish you could put me on?

Thank you,

Collegeville Johnnie

C-ville Johnnie,

We're putting in at EP30 on the 30th of September and heading down the Kawishiwi. Not sure when you go in or out, but would love to hear what you found.

The split is at the fork about a mile and a half east of the portage from the Kawishiwi river to Conchu.

We found a few Walleyes at the bottom (about 20’) near the narrows east of the Conchu portage, but I think you could have luck at any narrows with some wind. It was too windy all week, so we couldn’t fish them near our campsite. We ended up fishing slip bobbers with leeches and never fished the rapids. Water levels are pretty low.

We also caught smallmouth and sunnies in 16-18’ just off shore in a couple places. We didn’t really catch enough fish for you to key off any one spot.

And the bugs are virtually nonexistent.

Fritty
