When we were there at the beginning of this August, before the moon rose over the horizon, I swear it was so dark that we were casting shadows from Jupiter's light.

That's SO great! I just learned about this and its sister programs when visiting Voyageurs National Park this summer.

I woke up one of the mornings around 3:30 a.m. (in VNP) to a clear night sky, to be treated to [hands down] the most spectacular star gazing I've ever seen in my life! There were constellations I've never seen before, and a certain pattern of twinkling lights...

TBH - it made me nearly cry it was so beautiful.

My daughter and I were on a trip in the BW in August over a new moon. It takes a lot to impress a teenager...she was awestruck by the stars and how visible they were. It was amazing...one of my top memories.

Very cool. That is always something we look forward to in the BW.

This is great! One of the fondest memories I have is sitting on a rock on our campsite from my first canoe trip to the BWCA in 1967, watching the night sky every night.

Excellent news.

Back in June we were enjoying a night out on the rocks with no clouds or moon and an incredible star display. Then we saw a trail of evenly spaced sattelites (maybe fifty satellites?) trail across the middle of the sky! Elon Musk's Starlink satellites we assumed. Anyone else seen this? Kind of a bummer that the night sky has to be marred by this.

Correct - that is the starlink satellites. I thought it was really cool the first time I saw it and then the more I thought about it the more pissed off I became.

Wonderful! I am always awed looking to the sky and seeing the stars when I have to get up to pee in the wee morning hours!

I was just thinking one of the advantages of getting older is that you have to get up in the middle of the night and go outside to take care of business. Then you look up and think, yes it was worth the hassle.

Yes...some how I forget this each year until I get up there and have a clear night. As someone else posted my teenager was impressed and that takes a lot—-no higher praise I can give.
