On Thursday (17th) my brother and I will be entering the Boundary for the first time ever...for 5 days of fishing. I grew up with summer vacations fishing the NW bay of Rainy-about every year...that was 50 years ago...OMG, I am getting old! (We are very athletic and in very good health.) We will be guided on this initial venture-more for our physical safety (convenience, camping and not getting lost) than from the fishing guidance side-we know how to fish. I am told we will be base-camping on Ensign. My brother is an expert fly fisherman and is planning to harass the northerns and SMBs. I am looking forward to good walleye fishing. I would be glad for suggestions.

Folks are generally a bit more tight-lipped on brookies, so that can be tough. Go the MNDNR lakefinder site and you can get info on individual lakes. For lake trout, you'll need to portage through Vera to Knife. You'll do fine on Ensign. You can add largemouth and bluegill to to the menu there as well.

Lol, I have never felt so let down by a post! I was excited thinking he was going to give me the golden secret to catching fish when I go up for a couple days next week and then clicked on the post and was instantly disappointed HA!

I will follow the "tight lip" advice given here. I have caught many fish of many varieties in my lifetime-including this species. The quantity and quality of this experience was over-the-top once-in-a-lifetime. Our guide had only ever fished this lake through the ice-but advised us going in that his information was that it was possibly the best for this fish in Minnesota-he was astounded by the catch. We had a very good day the first day...decided to return two days later-OMG!
