I am thinking about going into Knife lake in early October, traveling through Knife River. I have not been able to find any info on fishing Knife River from Birch lake to Knife lake. Are there fish to be had in that stretch? Thanks!

It's hardly a river. Knife pours into a series of little lakes, Seed, Carp, and then Birch, before it gets into Seed there's a little pond too that's like 100 yards to paddle across. Knife "River" isn't really a river, it's max about 200 yards long, the current turns into river-type current about 100' just before the mouth where it starts dumping into the next pond.

We've done well for smallmouth in there, caught some walleye after dark, but other than that nothing tremendous and if I was already on Knife I'd rather fish the good bays and islands.

If you're gonna fish the area, try to get the site on the west side of the island that's a rock's throw from Canada's border just to the east of the "river". It's the best site in the area I think! not gonna lie, I think this area in October would be flipping great. Good luck!

I've traveled through those smaller lakes on my way to Knife several times. I've seen people catching smallies at the falls. However, based on my great fishing experiences on Knife lake in June and August, i wouldn't waste much time on those smaller lakes.
